Manuscript Read

A manuscript read is a broad read-through of your project. I will provide a review of your novel, including suggestions and comments on things such as flow, plot, and editorial recommendations. This is your simplest and most affordable option.

Developmental Edit

A developmental edit is a thorough evaluation of your manuscript. I will read through it and provide commentary throughout. I will cover the flow of the story and the plot, any possible plot holes, the characters and their chemistry, your style, and more. Most of the comments I leave will be geared towards helping you as the author work through any issues present. I will ensure that we are always on the same page and that any developmental changes follow your vision for your project.

Line Edit

A line edit will be a more intense edit of your manuscript. I will fix inconsistencies in writing style, tone, and language. This might include repetitive phrases, run-on sentences, breaks in fluidity, confusing scenes, and more. I want to ensure that your project reads well and sends the right message to the reader.

Copyedit

A copyedit will fix up errors with consistency, accuracy, and readability. It will be focused more on grammar, tightening up wordy sentences, and fact-checking, versus proofreading, which is best for typos, misspellings, and punctuation. I want your book to be easy to read for those who pick it up!

About The Pensivist

Hello there! My name is Jordan and I am the owner of The Pensivist Editing. I am a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics and a freelance editor for indie authors. I am an avid language learner, proficient in Spanish, and currently teaching myself Russian. My preferred genres are fantasy, sci-fi, and young adult, but I’m open to many other kinds of projects!

Fun fact: The name of my business is based on the adjective “pensive,” as it is one of my favorite words, and it is a mood that I often find myself in. Being someone who likes to create new words, I played around with it a bit, and “The Pensivist” was born!
